WASHINGTON Well, it's all over.
I've made my debut, hud my coming-out
party. Now I'm Just one of
tho "girls on the shelf."
That's what they call us aftor we
filldo over that dazzling peak the
formal bow to society and retire
to tho sidelines. My party came at
the close of the deb season. I had
attended dozens of others given by
my girl friends.
They vero all there In the great
glittering ball rocm where I stood,
tho somewhat dazed center of all
tho festivities, All my deb friends
gavo The little gifts as they came to
greet me. Dozens of bouquets sent
mi by other guests were banked be
hind mo.
I expected to be very nonchalant
at my own comJng-cmt party and I
didn't think I'd enjoy It very much.
But I found myself getting as ex
cited as a little girl on Christmas
morning.
Every one was so nice' to mo and
I had so many compliments on my
dress. It was of pale crchid-tlntcd
satin with a little draped cape of
purple -sequins across the back.
It wasn't one of those sweet, slm
plo and girlish dresses but was
moro sophisticated and depended
on lines and dr apings for its effect.
I had rather a novel fan. It was
of orchid colored feathers and real
orchids and lilies of the valley were ;

I got a big thrill out of it all.
Beyond the gay refreshment table
with, its candles, red polnsettlas and
white chrysanthemums I could see
the dancing. Tho orchestra was
playing all my favorite tunes.
Presently Georgs Calvert, leader
of tho Washington Bachelors' cotil
lion, stood before mo bowing. He
led me out on tho danco floor.
Herd I was at my own coming-out
party anu having a delightful time,
I enjoyed it lots mora than I thought i
l would.
