Although the matter was discussed
at length from several .angles, no def
i inlte. action was taken, at last night's
! session of the boxing' and city' com
missions in the city hall.
Elks Smoker
The Elks held an interesting
smoker last night at the. temple and
a large group attended ' to see the
boxing and wrestling matches ar
ranged by Brick Anderson. Ray Mc
Carroll and Young McCoy gave dem
onstrations and instruction In wrestl
ing, explaining the different points
and holds. A battle royal and two
matches were also staged'. The
Smelzer children from. Baker gave a
Juvenile, entertainment1, and Claude
Berry, harmonica player, and his
Blue Mountain Wranglers, augmented
by Ray Williams and Sis uke, played
a number of selections. Wren Howel,
bones, and Marlon spencer, banjo,
are also members of the Wrunglcrs.
The committee in charge' included
Bob Williamson. Bob Carey, C. A.
Smith and Judy Ash.
In Portland
Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Ashby are In
Portland where they are transacting
business and , attending the opera.
They expect to return Sunday.
Attend the Opera -
Miss Jean White. Miss Nell Orlm
mett and Mrs. Grover Qrlmmett are
driving to Portland to. attend the
opera which is being presented by the
Chicago Civic opera company tills
week. Miss White will visit with her
parents, and Mrs, Grimmett and Miss
Grimmeti will vls.lt friends, returning
to La Grande Sunday evening. Miss
White teaches In the high school.

died at the home of hor daughter,

Cal. Tho body will be brought to

Thompson will leave tomorrow night
for Burley to attend the funeral. ,
