Wife Are Visiting
In La Grande
Not until Mrs. Do rift Id W. Hughes
arrived In La Grande Wednesday, did
many of Dr. Hughes' friends learn of
his marriage June 10 to Miss Ruth
Murrny. of Des Moines Iowa, in her
home city.
This spring Dr. Hughes graduated
from the Still College of Osteopathy
and soon after his mairlage came to
his heme ut La Grande. Mrs.
Hughes did not :ollow until this
week, and they are visiting now at
the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
E. E. Hughes. .
Dr. Hughes Is a graduata of La
Grundo High nchool whero he was
prominent, in Athletics.

WASHINGTON. Aug. 2'2 (P) For
mnr Ambassador Gerard's list of 04
men who "rulo the United States"
was protested here today by the
women-folk. They objected to his
omission of any woman power.
"I am afraid Mr. Gerard's long
residenco in Germany has rather
given him an un-Amertcan viewpoint
regarding women's contribution to
the life of the United' States." re
marked Mrs. John F. Sfppel, presi
dent of the General Federation of
Women's clubs.
Several refused, to accept what they
termed the "obvious money magnate
basin" of Gerard's opinion of this
country's control.
Names of women regarded by wom
en cs potent in- the nation's weal
were cited.
"For the country's good, I would
rather have fifty-nine women like
Carrie Chapman Catt than fifty-nine
men. like those," said Mrs. Roscoe
Anderson, acting president of the
national league of women voters, of
M. Gerard's original list. "And -1
concede many on the list are very
public-spirited."

bined with personal and political
powe.'. Mrs. Anderson mentioned Mrs.
Casper Whitney, of New York.
Mrs. Sippel coincided with Mrs. i

3 tablespoons butter or bacon fat
0 egg yolks
6 tablespoons milk
i2 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoon paprika
A teaspoon celery salt
6 egg whites, beaten
Beat egg yolks, add milk. Beat
2 miuutefa. Fold in seasoning and
egg whites. Heat butter in frying
plncu with foric and cook 3 mln
i tes. Turn onto warm platter. Gar
nish with parsley and serve at once.

A teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons lemon Juice

Mix ingredients. Cover and

Spread with whipped cream and
serve, cut In slices.
Apply spirits of camphor on a
soft cloth to spots on varnished fur
niture and rub briskly.
To remove grass stains from
clothing sponge with alcohol.

lightful fishing streams that mean

to make the new road which Is be
ing changed at that point. When the
water was drained out of the small
streams all the trout that were too
small to come under the six-inch
limit were transferred to the main
stream while- those long enough fur
nished a trout feed for the men.
The road is being changed to avoid
