Private Wealth
Of Britain Goes )
To Public Purse
, LONDON . (fPi Redistribution of
Great Britain's wealth through tares
on huge estates is going on in & big
way;
- The Income of Ramsay MacDonald's
government from death du ties this
year seems likely to establish a new
record. -
' Since April 1 nearly $90,000,000 has
poured into the British treasury from
this source. That is well above Chan
cellor Snowden's estimate of 9410.-
000. 000 for the year.
This figure Is the more remarkable
because three hugs estates have not
been formally proved. They will yield
at least another $75,000,000. :
It is, for example, estimated tha ap
proximately $50,000,000 will be derived
from the late Lord Ashton's fortune,
while the estates of Lord Dewar and
Major Andrew Coats Will yield about
$10,000,000 and $5,000,000 respectively.
The Dewar money came from whiskey
and the Coats riches from cotton
thread.
- For the financial year 1920-30 Win
ston Churchill, chancellor of the ex
chequer in the conservative cabinet,
estimated that $405,000,000 would be
derived from death duties. The actual
yield was $489,850,000.'
Thir. amount Included $10,575,000
from the estate of Mr. Bernard Baron,
$4,650,000 from that of Lord Revel
stoke and $2,720,000 from that of Lord
Rosebery.

and he sulks "a good deal. Ordinary
play activities, the companionship of
other children, the merely friendly
treatment which he receives from
other adults come to him as a bleak.
uninteresting contrast to the exciting,
satisfying moments- he spends with
his mother. i
It is impossible for him to under
stand why he does not rate first place
from the world-at' largo. He rebels
at routine and refuses to learn' the
meaning of fair play. :
His entire adjustment to the world
In which he must learn to live is
made far more difficult than It need

of anything but tho 'pleasure .they
