Tho pursuit of the unknown In
disease causation and cure leads
tho research physician into tho
realms of all sciences.
As a sample, let us consider tho
cancer problem. Cancer Is a diseuso
affecting primarily tho older ago
groups, and although cancer in the
young is known, it is believed to bo
a special typo associated with
irregularities in development. Tho
vast majority of cancers aro found
In those foity-fivo years of ago
and over.
To account for tho prevalenco of
tho disease among tho older ugo
groups, a number of hypotheses
huvo been postulated, Ono has won
much favor. It main tains that can
cer Is more common among the
other groups for tho reason that
their body cells aro not ns vital us
thoso of tho young, and honco aro
less ablo to resist tho causative
agent of cancor.
j However, in HU6 Professor
kio demonstrated that truo skin
cancer could ho produced on the
ears of rabbits by painting tho skin

Careful studies later wero con
