In Which To Build Its Programs
NEW YOUK (AP) Radio
broadcasting1 has been responsible
for many an alliea art. Proffram
building, Us llfcblood, is . ono or
these.
The making of radio pro prams
lias grown to the point where chain
broadcast systems and individual
stations have built up special or
ganizations for tnls purpose. Be
sides there have been developed
outside bureaus which make the
program complete, ready to bo
taken to the studio and there trans
mitted for the listening audience.
Tho art, comparatively new, de
pends upon tho showmanship of
Its various units as a highly im
portant (uallficallon, according lo
William IJ. Murray, president of
Yho Judson progrnm bureau, ono of
the pioneers In this field. This bur
eau builds many of the chain feat
ures heard nightly throughout the
country.
V "The growth of tho program or
ganization was a natural ono," Mr.
Murray said. "The nucleus was
present irt the organization of ar
tists developed by concert man
agement. Around them was built
the system of specialists for pro
gram making, including conductors,
production experts, writers, re
search librarians, arrangers and
other specialists In music and
drama.
"Today each radio period,
whether it is for 15 minutes or an
hour, is taken perfect to the stu
dio, all prepared, in advance by
planning and rehearsal."
Jn pointing out tho investment
required, Mr. Murray said the mu
sieal library needed for radio work
alono represented a value of more
I than a quarter of a million dollars.
In addition there arc maintained
studios much like thoso of a broad
cast station, where such artists aa
Josef Pastornaek, Eugi-ne Ornmn
dy, Alois llavrllla and I.ois IUik
nott, rehearse before they go to
tho station to pat their programs
on tho air.
Everything is run to the second
a stop-watch being an Important
ltem In making programs.

Coffee flavor is the most sensitive
thing that enters your kitchen -
casy to go wrong. Try to make
cheap coffee and good coffee on
successive mornings week after
week. How good will your good
coffee be? And it iifar more dif

coffee. There is only one place
where only good coffee is made
the Schilling roasting rooms. No
cheap blends no 2nd or '.3rd

finest things usually come from
those who make fine things only.
