recently imported parrots until of

a highly fatal disease several cases
of which nre thought to have been
contracted from the birds in Mary
land. In response to an appeal from
Governor Ritchie, two public
health doctors hnvo been sent to
Itultimoro and Annapolis to study
the condition of three persons, crit
ically ill with what Is thought to
bo psiltuchosls or "parrot's dis
ease," the symptoms of which are
similar lo those, of pneumonia and
typhoid fever.
J)r. Cumming said ho did not
feur an epidemic of the disease,
since, it is generally believed th-it
it is transmitted only from bird to
human being, and not from person
to person. Ho urged, howevur, that
contact with parrots and their
