WARNS AGAINST

tlio people against running l heir
automobile engines in closed git

when Idling un engine to heat It
for the morning exit, or tinkering
with tho automobile while the en

gine lor a short lime in a closed
garage produces enough carbon
monoxide lo make, it extremely
dangerous. This Is especially true
when tho motor is cold and as a
result the cofnbustlou of the fuel is
incomplete. It is never advisable,
to run an automobile engine in a
closed garage. When it, is neces
sary to work In a room where mot
if oi-s are running, an adequate sys-
irm of ventilation should be In- :

gas from the exhaust. Children
juc particularly susceptible to this
gas and on a long trip in cold
weather one should have some ven

Carbon monoxide has the power
of very quickly combining with the
hemoglobin of tho blood, three
hundred times more so readily than
owgen. That is why it Is so dis
astrous. It shuts off from the
blood the needed oxygen and as
phyxiation follows, The air of a
closed garage is so quickly filled
with this gus one cannot escape,

before any noticeable symptoms
appear, such as headache, drowsi

mark the poisoning when only
minute quantities of this gas arc

Chrysler Stripes
Bodies With Guns
For years, thero has boen one
man along an automobile assembly
lino whose Job was not affected by
tho development of machinery
the man who striped the engine
hoods by hand by deftly wlalding
a narrow brush. Idvcn In tho old
days, he was regarded by his fel
low workers as a gifted individual
with a marvelous eye and steady
hand.
l'rogross, however, held no brief
for the striper.
J n tho hood finishing depart
ment of the Chrysler plants where
tho "77," "70" and "GG" models
recelvo their finishing touches,
girls equipped with paint guns
have taken tho place of the old
fashioned hand painter. "Mom
and better stripes" is their slogan
uk their highly-trained hands di
rect the guns across (ho beading
on the hoods.
Now the striper has a new job.
In many cases, he has become an
Inspector whose educated' eye ap
preciates the superiority of "gun
lines" compared to those of the
brush in tho most skilled hand of
the old school. Stripes are now
uniform, straight and clean.
The striper held a unique place
years after the automobile had re
placed the carriage. When tho
sprit y booth and bake oven re
placed the brush, a ml drying room,
when lacquer rudely displaced
paint and varnish In Die big pro
duction plant, hi still held his own.
This was one Job, factory heads
said, that had to be done by hand.
The guns used in this .striping
upeitition resemble the ordinary
heud spray, with a nozzle designed
to feed a thin paint line as re
quired in the stripe. A guide at
tached to its side fits over the bead
of the hood, holding it in line so
the si ripe is the result of one con
tinuous molion. . A finer, cleaner
plceo of workmanship is effected
compared to former methods.
It Is another step In the present
era of closed car production.

which cost their owners less and
