At one time .early In the Spring

made by some of the local buyers.

done some experimenting with al
falfa on dry Jiind this season re
port good stands. In a number1 of
instances Grimm and Cossack al
falfa have been seeded, these types
nre said to be quite suitable to dry
land conditions If a good stand!

stands on the ground which did not

been quite' warm during the past
week, allowing the grain crops to
make an excellent growth- Much
of the early sown winter wheat Is
jointing at this lime lacing a foot
or - mora in holghth.-Practically
all Reeilings. of, spring grain is up
or coming up and even stands are
seen In nearly nil fields. With the
soil still holding plenty of moisture
unit much of thev grain becoming
large enough to shade, the ground,
aiding in holding the moisture near
the surface, present indications
point toward good crops generally
In this section. If the remaining
part of .the growing season proves
to be anything like a normal year.
The bulk of the potato planting
has been done in this community
during the post week, reports from
farmers over the -community Indi
cate that the plantings here this
season will not lo ; largo. The
largest planting being made In this
end of the. valley Is that T. G.
Johnson who is finishing planting
14 acres this week.
Many of the farmers In the dry
farming sections of the countynro
busy Willi the plowing of summer
fallow. On some of (he smaller
farms the most of the plowing hus
been finished, vvhlle some of the
larger farmersr many of whom
have done a considerable amount
of Wring seeding are Just getting
started with their summerfallow

cellent condition for plowing In
most places yet. not having dried
out much except on the light thin

Pasture crops on Irrigated lands
of the valley are making an excel
lent growth since the weather be
came warmer. The bunch -grass on ;
dry land has made a fine growth
with the grass being nearly a Toot
in heigh th on tracts which have
not been, heavily pastured. Clean-';

ing the attention of . some of the
farmers In the vnlley. Some of the
alfalfa and pasture tracts are said
to need Irrigation In order to pro- ;

The county road building crew ;
has been busy recently making i
some small changes In the road
location running from the river j
ridge near the H. G. Mnsterson
farm through the valley south to :
LostJne, some of the steep pitches
havo been eliminated and the most
of the grading finished at this
time.- A part of this road was
graveled last year and when fin
ished will serve n considerable
j number of. farmers In that com
munity. .
Charles Horner ' of ' Powwatka
ridge was a business visitor in lin
tcrptisu the Inst of the week. Mr.
Horner :snys the gross Is fine. In
that section now and that the
greater part of the spring seeding
of grain has been finished. It
states that some of the winter
wheat did not come through with
very good stands and that some of
the far mors havo found It neces
sary to re-work portion's of their
fields and . seed In rsomo spring
wheat. He also reports that al-
falfa In that community- has made
,'n good growth with much of It he
ting a foot or more tall nt this
time.

used In the county at this time, he
