Comparison of county general taxes is favorable for the
La ' Gn.mie taxpayers who . contribute $16,052 to county
fco.uument costs whilo Salem pays $19,812 and Medford
$36,009. In a La Grande property owner's tax bill is $100,
on.y $4.62 of it goes for county general purposes while in
Pendleton tho county gels $5.35 and Baker $5.11..
; ' Considered from every angle, Iwi Grande's tax bill for
fchool, city, county, state, and other special purposes is below
the ' average .of other cities of similar size and facilities.
Taking Into acc'uuni its equipment with reference to future
growth, its position is most favorable. Especially significant
is the relatively small portion of our total tax bill that goes
tor state purposes. . Outside of roads we pay only 4.55',
for general state revenue and higher education. Local schools
and local government take 75.32 yet they do not receive
