robel forces were beaten back after a mass attack against

gunfire rebel troops under General Hauhto Topete, attacking
the federal garrison here at noon today; had gained the pro
tection of a cemetery cast of town and had driven the federal
troops from the front line trenches. ;
' The United States trooper, a negro, shot while on lino
duty east of Naco this morning, was brought to the cavalry
camp field hospital and identified as Private John Fineze, of
Troop E. He was not fatally injured, the camp surgeon said.
Kineze was struck in the chest by a. bullet fired from the
Mexican side of tho line. A Mexican woman shot. in the back
while on the American Bide, also was. in the camp hospital,
and a Mexican child, also on the American side, was reported
