The Oregon national guard rifle
team, of 15 men in company with
their coach. Adjutant L. li. Spoon
er, of the IStith infantry, passed
through this morning on their
way home from Camp Ferry. O.,
where they successfully partici
pated In the national rifle team
contest with the marine corps,
navy, all divisions of the army,
and the national guards of every
state, as well as the national nftc
ry association team. The Oregon
team made an unusually splendid
record, winning the Infantry
Trophy, which is generally con
ceded to one of the army, navy or
marine teams, and being ranked
in class A at the contest which ex
tends over a period of several
weeks. The Infantry Trophy, it Is
said, is the most massive of any
of the awards made at Famp
Ferry. In describing the contests.
Adjutant Spooner this morning de
clared that there was no better
coiitpped site in tin world than at
Camp Ferry for the rifle meet.
"With 4.iuii uniformed men tak
ing part on the large terrace ritle-
ry grounds bordering the lake, the
picture was strikingly beautiful."
he declared. Adjutant Spooner
was not eligible to take part this
year because of a rule ot the con
