For over fifteen years Ihe lime from the quarries of the
Black Marble & Lime company has been manufactured in limited
quantities and sold to local contractors, plasterers, etc. As its v
superior quality became obvious with actual use in a great many
ways, the demand always exceeded the supply.
The tremendous amount of building: now going:' on and in
prospect throughout the Western states Js but one portion of
the market f or. Black Marble lime. 7 '
One of the greatest potential markets is found in the paper
mills of the Northwest as lime is used in the manufacture of
paper. Due to the pulp wood resources of this section of the
country new mills and enlarged mills are springing up in almost
all parts of these timbered states, providing a lime market of
great proportions.
Manufacturers of orchard spray materials have repeatedly
sought sufficient qualities of Black Marble lime because it was
so admirably suited to their purpose. Manufacturers of steel,
ammonia, glass, explosives, paint, soap, flour, disinfectants and
a score of other commodities are purchasers of lime in large
quantities. Sanitation and purification of city water supplies
demand increasing amounts of lime each year. Sour and leached
soils are brought back lo production by application of pulver
ized limestone. Sugar refiners of the Hawaiian and Philippine
Islands are lime users.
Lime, as the commercial quick lime is commonly called, is
the basis of operation of the Black Marble & Lime Co., but there
is also an excellent opportunity for much revenue from by
products in the form of hydrated lime, agricultural hydrate, arid
the pulverized limestone previously mentioned. These are large
ly salvaged from the waste at quarry and kilns and the grow
ing market for these lime products is obvious. Polished black
marble, equal or superior, as some experts claim, to the Belgian
or Italian black marble will also he manufactured for the build
ing trade.
Because of the limited deposits in this country of limestone;
and because only one deposit in New York state even approaches
the quality of Black Marble or "Chieftain" lime, the market is
tremendous. Letters and orders from various quantity pur
chasers of lime, throughout the Northwest alone, gives abso
lute confidence in the successful sale of the entire production of
the company's new and modern plant.
