has been fortunate in having fires checked before tho heavi
est stands were reached. It is gratifying to think that nuuh
of the loss is salvable and that the final figures will prob
ably be much lower than is indicated at the worst pciiml
of the fire season. Kvery tree is valuable and every effort
is required to protect this wonderful resource, yet the
losses are actually quite small considering the state's wealth
in this respect.
