MOTOR DEATHS.
The total fatalities caused by motor accidents in 78 of
the largest cities of the United States reached 549 in the
four-week period from May 19 to June 17. Last year the
. number was 493, so there was a good-sized gain. In' some
cities, however, where very strong efforts have been 'made
to reduce accidents, the totals have dropped. In Cleveland,
for instance, there were 15 automobile deaths in the period
as compared with 18 u year ago. Such percentages must
be considered, also, in relation' to the, growth in number of
