' mobiles. ' " ,
l While tho genera! trend of build
ing Is skyward to ovrcomo conges
tion of inside city districts, the
probable trend In automobile body
design Is likely to be Just the op.
poslte direction to accomplish the
game result. ...
- There Is no disputing tho (act
that the 'entire tendency in auto
inobtlo body design has been to
ward compactness especially during
tho -past three years. The sedan
or limousine of four of five years
ago was a high, lumbering looking
affair with a perceptible climb from
the curb into the seating compart
ments. , . . , j
- Today the occupants step off the
curb and Into tho body with far'
greater ease and comfort than ever
before. And they have the same
amount of room and greater com
fort than they had in the sky
scraper bodies. '
Tho larger cars have ; shown
greater accomplishments than havo
the smaller ones and the next step '
in body development may be looked-l
for among builders of the small,
light cars which constitute better '
than 60 per cent of all the cars
In uso at tho present time,
;i- Will Force Change. ' i : .
- The adoption of the European
type of chassis and power plant
I design, which has been generally
prophecled during the past few

One CTC tire oh your car will prov to your complete satis
faction that CTCs are the cheapest tires you can buy. They
; actually deliver greater mileage, and mileage determines
the actual cost to you. Ypur speedometer will prove that, "
, v CTC'b af built differently than other tires that's .
r part of the secret. And there are ten other exclusivs
engineering features that are built into CTC tiree '
. lot one reason only more mileage. - ' " ' '-'
No other tire has the scientific tread design and the
extra-tough secret process tread stock ol CTC, that's
why no other tire built gives equal muaaae.
' There's a CTC dealer near you talk with him. He
has a money saving story for you that your speed
ometer will check up.

months, will force a. change tn body
design.
When the European type , car
makes Its appearance in this coun
try It will bring wltlj It speed and
performance abilities which are Snt
associated with the present day
light car. We can expect SO miles
an hour and an acceleration equal
to that of many of our present light
sixes despite the fact .that the
trend indicates that the new typo
car, when It comes, will , have s a
four cylinder motor.
The speed development will ne
cessitate low hung bodies In order
to secure the necessary road sta
bility and security In driving curves
and rough roads. At the present
time wo have, motor cars In which
the top of tho roof is not much over
six feet from the bottom of the
tires. -
Nearer tlie Ground
The European type of small car,
if built by American manufacturers
will bring this height still lower to
the ground,, and wo may expect
bodies which will be- well under
six feet ,in total height from the
ground,' and yet which will afford
the same amount of head room
to which wo havo been accus
tomed. . .t ,
It may take us some time 1o be
come fully accustomed to bodies of
this height for at first glance they
will appear small. It is, however,
entirely possible to build such a
body and afford all the Insldo room
which Is round In our present light
cars. . ' ' .
, Huch a trend In small car .bodies
will add materially to the appear
ance value of the cars for they will
resemble the low hung bodies of
our higher priced and larger mod
el and will give tho designer full
sway in securing a trim and at
tractive combination pt lines and
effects.
- The rsctors which will have to
bu taken Into consideration, will be
spring suspension, the method in
which the body is supported on the
frame, and the siie of tho tires.
'V. SmaJler Tires Also.
Balloon tires, which are rapidly
becoming standard equipment on
nil ears, will offer the opportunity
to use tires of smaller diameter
than we are accustomed to at pres.
ent and these tires will afford
greater comfort, greater road sta
bility and longer life than we have
found from tire equipment In thin
past.
Present s'prlng' design has ma
terially lowered the1 height of many
of our cars and tho use of a high
ly developed form or somi-ellipllc.
springs will aid In tho securing of
lower bodies. ' '
Hpeculatlvo Interest can easily
run wild ihTegard to 'what may'
happen if ' Our fnunufacturcrs de
cide to make a chango in light car
design. , But it is fully within rea
son to anticipate as much as has
been Indicated.

eral design of any small car which
may be produced, In quantity In
this country, with the compactness
which is a part of the. European
lype or small, high speed engine,
there should too. ample room in the
chaxsls Tor all the .body dimensions
which could be required by any

draws from every state In the un

many thousand native of the state
who have never seen the great
crater wall. 26 miles In circumfer

two thousand feet high above the
body of water so unbelievably blue
that the chemists of three univer

streams, water falls, high land,
wild flowers and splendid forests,
the park being a gam refuge,
wild life Is abundant; especially the
bears, which become gentle and
friendly. They are, however, to be
approached carefully, as danger al
ways attends the attempt to touch
a -wild animal. 1 ';
The federal government has
through the years, appropriated
ample means to mnke the park
comfortable and sate. A good road
system has been built, trails lead
down to tho water's edge and to
various other Interesting spots In
the park: a large hotel offer fine
accommodations on the very rinv
of the crater; there are stores, a
service station; a complete photo
graphic service; launches, row
boats, tc. No frills, but all of the
essentials and comforts. , Similarly,
because a majority prefer to camp,
ton camp grounds havo bcon es
tablished In various part of the
park, the largest being on the rim
of the crater overlooking the lake.
Southern Oregon would draw a
tremendous tourist travel even If It
had no other attractions than this
national park, but fortunately the
park Is but the canter of a great
outdoor area that haa few rivals.
All of Souhern Oregon .from Rose
burg to the. Siskiyou comprises a
splendid scenic unit, a vast area
of forested mountains, rushing trout
streams, lovely fertile vallys plac

and lakes that are a joy to camp ?

bio. just around the corner..1 The
state highway commission has con
structed a fine road system, a sys
tem that does not criss-cross the
region but adequately opens up the
entire area. The etnto effort has
been augmented by a series of fed
eral forest and county roads, so that
one can leave a. city, and In thirty
minutes be deep In the wilderness.
Or, out of Medford, for example,
you can be In Crater Iake national
park at Ulumond lake In from
three to rour hours, depending up
on your car1 and your load.
And such a wilderness! There Is
