One of the most worth-while activities undertaken in
the city in several years is the picture study work and

shown in the present final contest. Many youngsters can
name ,more world masterpieces and the artists than most
of us know exist. One little lady named thirty .pictures and
the artists of each correctly in fifty seconds as. rapidly
lis they could be presented' to her. Many others tire equally
adept. Another youngster underwent an operation at the
local hospital and was busy the next day, when the doctor
Called,; learning the pictures strewn over her hospital bed.
Two or three children from one family have participated
ill the contest in some cases, indicating i keen appreciation
for the good that can be accomplished, by Ixith parents and

Winners-. will not be picked easily because of the expert
ability of so ninny of the children, and judges have taken
care to sue that all papers arc mimliered, not signed, so

iited. So close are the contestants that additional prizes
have been sought for second places in various grades so
that proper reward will be available to the children for
their excellent work.
, The business, professional, and other public spirited men
and organizations which have offered the prizes for this
contest should take a great deal of pride in the part they
arc playing and should feel complimented that they have
the privilege. If they will but investigate the work that
lias been done and become acquainted with the interest
and enthusiasm of the children that the contest has stim
ulated, their prizes will be offered every year and will be
come a standing award. It is a privilege that should be
guarded jealously guarded . localise it is an aid to the
development and advancement of children that will mean
much in future years.
