WORTHY CHARITY.
The charitable work dune in the La Grande community
desen-cs tlie support of every citizen. In a city of this
fize there is certain to le a great numler of cases that
require the help and assistance of those .who are more for
tunate in life. . Several organizations make a practice of
giving relief at certain times during the year to worthy
needy people, but it remains for the Salvation Army in
I -a Grande to cany the brunt of the work and do construc
tive relief work the year 'round. The Salvation Armv is!
the only agency in the city to do constant chanty work and
1 he opportunity afforded the people hcie to help their re
lief program deserves whole-hearted attention.
; Those fortunate citizens who have good homes, a fair
living, adequate food, and waim beds and clothing are often
prone to forget that there may l families within the com
munity who lack the lare necessities of life. Some of them
are in direst poverty and most of them are unknown to
anyone capable of giving help except the Salvation Army.
Army workers are iwntiiu'.aily cajiable of finding out the
true conditions in needy families. They become confidants'
of people who would otherwise starve K-foie they would
admit misery and privation. By. training and cxonence
they know worthy cases and they know how relief can liest
be provided.
The entertainment to lie given lomoirow evening for
the lienofit of the local Salvation Ainiy's charity fund is an
unusually fine effnit on the part .of miblie-sniritetl citizens
who have made it p.ssil.l". It gives the x-o!e of the city j
a chance to enjoy ;.n excellent entertainment program and j
lit the s:ime time to Cur.tribiito to the aid of worthy poor i
of the city who sue so in need at this season of the year.
The taliernacle should In- rru.dei! to its d''i as an expres
sion of appreciation l'..r the artists who cive their talent'
and of approval "f the v. oik U-ing done by the Salvation
Army persomu,l l.eie.
