To Plowshares
ON THIS anniversary of the conclusion of the
direst conflict in the history of all time and of
all nations it is time for retrospection.
Battle scared villages and farms have smoothed
away their bruises and the -ever alleviating hand of
Nature has returned them to productiveness and
peacef ulness in aspect. .
Enmity and enviousness of the- warring nations
have melted away into the spirit of natural brother
hood of man and faith and hope and charity spread
an aura of . humanity and benevolence throughout
all Christendom.
All is returning to' normalcy all except the. shat
tered shell-shocked bodies and the bereft minds and
morale of the unfortunate heroes. .
To them, then, is due all deference and reverence
on this day the first to respond yet the, most fu
tile to restore and recompense for an imperishable
service, ;. .
