Kederation of Women's ''clubs. Is
one of the oldest in 'the 'state.
The club Is now 81 years old.,,.

themselves together for mutual
improvement and sociability. Mrs.
Jessie I. Cavanu, a .woman of
&at experience and .intellect, be
nuue the first president, of the
Neighborhood club, as 1 It was
called, and under- her - guidance
the organization be,gai Its career
founded upon firm principles. The
traditions of these ear. y begin
nings have been kept alive up to
the present time.'
Self improvement satisfied this1
group for a time but them cairn
un urge to go out, to oxplore, the
work being done by women, "to
strive to touch and know the
greut common woman's heart for
us all," and so application for
membership to the. iionural fed
eration of Clubs was inude.' This

from Oregon to receive; this 'honoi.
When the State Federation was
organised In 1899 this club sent
delegates and became a charter
members. Many of Hs mem be i
have served and are serving as
officers of this body. Others
have served In important posi
tions of the General - Federation.
A marked change came In the
life of the club when It was per
mitted the use of the commercial
club rooms for a meeting place
of its , regular niectingn. .The j
membership was no longer lim
ited and "wonan's ' uoul being
ever attuned to - .needs of , the
world," a desire was created tp
unite forces with this ctvic or
ganization for the bettu.iue.it f

has played so , great a part all
