For First Eight
Months of the Year
WASHINGTON, 1). C -The de
partment of commerce announces
that reports of automobile fatali
ties in 1926 have been received 77
cities' of 100.000 population or
more. Thirty-six of t hese cities
show mop automobile fatalities in
the four-week period ending Au
gust 16 than in the previous four
ir.oek period. Norfolk shows no
fatalities for the last eight weeks,
and in addition the following seven
cities show no fatalities for the
last four weeks: Dayton, Houston,
Lynn, New Bedford, St. I'aul, Sun
Antonio, and Waterbury. New Bed
ford, with two deaths still holds
the record for 1925.
For 67 cities with an aggregate
population of 27 million, there
were 2878 automobile fatalities re
ported i nthe pt-riod January 1 to
Atigust 15, 3926, as contrasted with
2SS5 such Natalities in the period
January 1 to August 31, 1923. Of
these 2878 deaths. 3G8, or 13 per
cent, were reported In the four
week period ending August 1 6,
