NEW YORK (AP) Episcopal
church clergymen are not particu
larly musical, Intimates the report
which a Joint commission on church
music ha Just completed for son
aideration at the general conven
tion of the church which will meet
In New Orleans October 7 next.
The report asks in effect how
can a minister exercise the sole au
thority for administration of church
music In his parish, which church
law gives him when he does not
know anything about music? Re
newal is made of the recommenda
tion of three years ago that courses
in history and practice and ap
preciation of church music be es
tablished In all the theological
seminaries. Some DroKress alone:
I these lines has bfen made, the re
port adds, but there Is still great
room for improvement.

Radio Chats
(By Iowcl Crosley Jr.) 1
Many people believe the ninrei
tubes a radio hns the better it is. j
This Is not so.
It is the way the tubes are used
that, counts.
Numerous manufacturers, have
to make five and six-tube sets lie
cause they do not own any pattnts
or licenses that would permit them
to get better results by using three
tubes.
"Please stand by' (s a' phrase not
ised , at station WLW U Cincin
nati. ' A fipecial microphone n used
to tell tlte, artist when to "prepare"
and - 'when to "broadcast, find
through the use of the bqIo and
ensemble studios, it permits a con
tinuous program without interrup
tion and making it unnecessary to
ask the radio audience to "please
stand by" while the studio Is being
arranged -for. t ho next number, as
is the ense when only onv studio
is available In a broadcasting sta
tion. At this time of the year when
broadcasting conditions are not as
good as during the winter. It is a
good plan to try all wire connec
tions, to see that the ground win
and antennae are properly con
nected, that the battery connec
tions are clean nnd light, (hut the
batteries and full strength, that the
tubes are In good order in brief,
that your whole radio house is in
good order.
With all connections O. K. and
with batteries and tubes In good
working order nnd assuming, of
course, that tho s-t Itself is In good
working condition, reception
should be good. If you use wet
batteries, keep (hem well charged.
