An Aggressive Fight
NEW YORK (AP) Tom Gib
bona of St. Paul, master defensive
boxer, says that he has planned an
aggressive battle to defeat Gene
Tunney in their 15-round fight to
night at the Polo Grounds.
"I'm going to be on the offensive
from the first bell," he aid.
"I'll make a fight out of it and
the faster Gent comes at nie the
better I'll like U."
Asked if he expected a knockout
Gibbons evaded the question.
"I've been misquoted." he con
tinued, "I never said Pd knockout
Tunney. but at the came time you
can expect me to keep trying to
land a finishing punch all the
time,"
Tunney, who arrived in New
York Thursday from his. Saratoga
lake training camp, appeared in
excellent condition. The retired
lightweight champion. Penny Leon
ard, will be his second.
Confidence pervaded the ranks of
the Tunney followers, although
Gene himself, had no predictions
to make.
Added Importance was given the
fight Thursday with the receipt of
a cablegram from Jack 1Hmpey
to Hilly Gibson, manager of Tun
ney, staling the champion "would
positively meet" the winner of the
fight, if the proper inducements
are offered. lempsey's message
