Yesterday In
Washington
It is regretable that Dr. Phy's talk yesterday before
Hie Chamber of Commerce, in which he dealt with public
health problems, was not heard by 500 people instead of
50. He sounded a warning- that has been voiced previously
in this column against the unchecked propagation of mora',
mental, and physical degenerates if our civilization is to be
snved and crime, disease and feeble-minded ness reduced to
a safe minimum.

THK CITY'S DANGER.
There is imminent danger, we fear, of the coming special
city election being lost to reaction because of indifference
r.nd lack of thorough investigation on the part of La Grande
voters. The City Commission is not calling this election
because they wish to see taxes raised (which will result if Tht "" u,r
the bond issues pass), nor because they desire to go down
in history as the officials who accomplished such-and-such
un improvement. They are taxpayers and voters as weil
as the rest of us. Certainly there must le a large measure
of their sincerity ,o their proposal and to the importance
Jieytach to the four lssuesb5 lours and hon?M4tudv
