General's 4-ply Balloon is the prac
tical equipment for the smaller ,
cars. For the heavier cars the 6
ply, Balloon has greater thickness
to carry 'the load and still allows
the full flexing action over obstruc
tions. At the same time it reduces
balloon puncture risk to a mini
mum. General's 6-ply Balloon consumes
no more power than the average.
4-ply balloon because General's
greater freedom from internal fric
tion always means power and
gasoline saving.
Back of the 6-ply General Balloon
is the long-standing experience
that has been responsible for Gen
eral's singular success with low
pressure in all Regular sizes as
well as Balloon Cords, both 4-ply
and 6-ply.
Come in and talk with us. We
will be glad to explain fully the
advantages of the 6-ply General
Balloon and discuss with you the
proper equipment for your car.

The marked efffct different makes

To understand tha reason fur tlio
xtra motor power demonstrated
With the General Cord it unut first
be understood that at) makes of tirea
abiiorb a certain amount of motor
power. It Is internal friction In
tires that causes power Iobb, This
varies tremendously according to
Die amount of internal friction in
each.
Vl'liis internal friction In Urea
uses up motor power in the same
way that friction in the working
parts of machinery acts aa a drag
agninat power. :
Friction is overcome by lubrica
tion. To prevent friction between
metal parts a film of oil is used, la
lint Biune manner, rubber of tha
finest grade and in generous quan
tity i used in the General Cord to
koop the cotton ptiea separated and
cueh cord insulated.
Thus, by a process equivalent to
lubrication, General has obtained
greater freedom from internal fric
tion, and this la the reason for the
extra motor power with the Genera)
Cord in comparison with other
mukes of Urea, r
Ldnger Mileage
and Low Pressure
Due to Less
Internal Friction
r The extra motor power with the
' General Cord has an even bigger
meaning than the gaaolfne saving
and the longer life of your motor,
for that same special feature of con
struction that accounts for the extra
motor power also explains the longer
tire mileage General's greater free
dom from Internal friction.
Internal friction Is the greatest
known destroyer of tires. Friction
always means wear, nd the tire
with the least Internal friction is
naturally the tire that shows the
lowest wear, provided this advan
tage Is gained, aa it Is in the Gen
eral Cord, without reduction In the
number and weight of plies essential
to proper construction.
It was General's maBtery of In
ternal friction that enabled it to
produce, five years ago, the first low
pressure tire ever placed on the
market.
Just as today It has enabled Gen
eral to produce the successful 0 ply
balloon cord, to rcplaco 4-ply bal
loons on all except the smaller cars
wmbining all balloon advantages
with the right strength for the load,
a well aamlucihg-billuon puncture
risk to a minimum.
The successful use of low pressure
depends upon a construction that is
able to withstnnd the heating up
and wearing effect of the InoreaBcd
bending and ktruining under low
pressure.
I This shows why General's leader
ship in low-preasuro tires, not only
In balloon aire, but in nil Regular
sizes, goes hand-ln-luind with Gen
eral's greater freedom from Internal
friction. It shows also why Generul
has never claHsitled itn Regular siro
cords as "bigh-prcauro" tires.
General Shows How
Internal Friction
Is Overcome
Tho process of complete insulation
In tho General Cord goes beyond the
commonly used method of passing
cord fabric through a thin solution
of gum dissolved in benzol. Gen
eral's special process, which eon
only be accomplished by putting the
cord plies through large steel cal
ender rollers, gives every ply a
heavy coating of finest rubber, uni
formly thick, forced, between the
cords so that each cord Is completely
surrounded and no two cords can
touch. Other important factors in
General's friction-eliminating pro,
ess are the special weave and high
est quality of combed cotton, as well
as the development of new principles
of Uro construction throughout. -

Low Pressure With
Regular Size Tires
Hundreds of thousands of car owners are
enjoying tho advantages of low pressure
without having changed their wheel equip
ment they are using General's Iow-pressuro.
Regular Size Cords.
It was back in 1919 that General produced
the first low-pressure tire ever put on the
market the General Jumbo 30x3 Cord
requiring only 30 pounds of air. This is the
sixth year of low pressure in the General
Cord and only such long-standing specializa
tion can explain General's singular success
.with it in all Regular Size General Cords as
well as the Balloons, both 4-ply and 6-ply.
Come in and talk with us. We will gladly
v demonstrate the low-pressure advantages of
the General Cord for your car.
