Few things in the world taste as good as they look, and
it may be that this applies to flapper complexions as well
as other things.

long until the grand manner will be extinct except for
traffic cops.
Von Hindenburg says that he has sworn to uphold thai
German constitution and honor her republican institutions.
Which promises well for his administration just so he
doesn't get the American habit of making his own interpretations.

LITTLE ENOUGH TO PAY.
( Eight years ago the people of the United States went
to her youth and took four million men to meet the cmertf-i-neyttiat
a war brought on. And those millions jrnvo gladly
und freely of service, of devotion, and of life. Today, for
the sake of those "who gave the most," these men, repre
sented by the American Legion, are going to the people
of the nation, of the state, and of Union county asking a
five million dollar endowment fund the income from which
can be used to properly care for crippled veterans and the
orphan children of service men.
Feeling a duty to their disabled ocmrades and to those
orphans equal to the duty to their country eight years ago,
Legion members seek to see that they do not suffer for
want of proper care, that they have homes and a fair
chance at happiness. The Endowment Fund will make
that possible. It is being raised by Ix-gion posts all over
the country and Union county and Ia Grande will be asked
to do their proper share the last of this month, May 2!th
to 30th.
Our quota here (and it includes our share in a fund
for the operation of the Oregon hospital for crippled chil
dren erected by the Doeinbecher estate) is only $1800. Cer
tainly this is little enough for the 20,000 people of Union
county to give for such a cause and for the furtherance of
such work. It is true that the country has had an over
supply of "drives" and campaigns and solicitations. S
much so, in fact, that we are tempted to frown on any
money-raising attempts until the memory of war drives
can lxt'ome a bit more faint. Hut here is an emergency
that is worthy of every effortan emergency that moa n
much to thousands of children to whom we must look in
future years for a share of the nation's leadership mid ac
complishment. And it is an emergency that Union county
will not overlook.
I!e ready when you are solicited for a part in this En
dowment Fund campaign. Give little or much, according
1o your ability but give! It is a worth-while investment.
