The greatest density of population in the United States
in Rhode Island, according to government figures. It
should be remembered, however, that there are legislatures
in all states.
Contrary to the popular metropolitan idea, all of the
hicks in the world are not to be found in the rural dis
tricts. We will admit, however, that a considerable quan
tity of those so common in the city are spelled h-i-c.
WK HOPE THEY COME AGAIN.
Much credit is due the Wallowa Wonderland company
and those individuals who have been on the entertainment
job for the excellent way in which the Frank Lloyd mov
ing picture cast has been cared for at the resort during
the filming of "Winds of Chance" scenes. Mr. Lloyd in
very complimentary of the service and accommodations his
company has received which is more valuable to local
W promoters .than any, ruoiey cojidjrpiuW Wfti
sibly be. Every effort has been made to satisfy the Lloyd
company because all Eastern Oregon hocs they will come
again and again to the same location for other films. Th
fact that Mr. Lloyd picked the Wallowa region for its
scenic beauty for this picture is strong evidence that '.I
has unusual qualities; and the fact that he found admir
able accommodations there for his people is equally strong
evidence that other visitors and thousands of vacation-,
ists will be entertained satisfactorily as the season wears
on. ,The advertising possibilities of Mr. Lloyd's location
here are of extreme value. A region that is so attractive
as to provide beauty for a half-million dollar picture
certain to be sufficiently attractive Jo draw discriminating
visitors who seek a summer playground.

Of every $100 of public revenue paid into the United

spends $4.20, the department of commerce spend 70 cents,
the department of interior spends $9, the department of
justice spends (50 cents, the department of laUn spends 20

the District of Columbia spends 70 cents, subscriptions to

premium on the public debt consumes 10 cents more and
the-retirement of the public debt eats up the remaining
13.50 of the $100. j
There is little significance in these individual items of!
the national budget unless they are placed in comparison..'
A comparison of the component items is far from encour-;
aging for it discloses that 00 per cent of the national rev-1
enue is spent fbr military preparation and in paying off.
the war debt. War is an expensive game even in peace'
time. !
H is lamentable that the nation must spend $11.20 to'
maintain a navy for every $1.20 spent for the protection'
and extension of the national food supply and that $10.10;

THEY say a tight man squeezes his dollar until ho

t wise man makes his dollar stretch. He lmvs hut
he buys wisely, making every dollar go a long "way.
He knows that the purchasing power of a dollar has
shrunk considerably in the last ten years. He. also
knows there has never been a time when wise buying
paid bigger dividends.
livery day, this newspaper contains information that
you should have to increase your buying power. The
advertisements arc intimate little lessons in cvery-day
economy. They teach you how, when and for what your
dollar will go farthest.
Manufacturers and merchants tell of their products
through the advertisements. Almost every new oppor

every unusual buy is advertised.
You can stretch your dollar to its elastic limit by
keeping abreast of the opportunities to get full value.
