' .The. scientist who says tliat there are no reasons why
men should not live to be 150 apparently hasn't thoqght
about the present tendency of the motorist.
In the old days the advice given to young girls was
''You are too young to marry," but with the present in
crease in divorces it probably has been amended to: "You
are too young to start marrying."
A NEW PARKING SYSTEM.
The proposed new system of parking cars in the busi
ness district of La Grande has some disadvantages but
there are also distinct advantages that commend it to those
desiring better regulation of traffic and the elimination
of driving hazards.
Parallel parking will require a greater amount of park
ing space during the time when the city's streets arc most
powdod and it will also result in some discomfort and an
iioyance to those drivers who are not familiar with tho
iliiiqkest and- easiest vray 4ti which to get rThr parallel
to the curb when hemmed in by others ahead and lehind.
l!ut these objections will be overcome with rapid adjust
ment to the new system, and, as the city authorities point
out, more driving space will be given and there will lc
less danger from fire trucks important considerations dur
ing heavy traffic hours.
Traffic will not only be speeded up considerably but
many accidents and near-accidents will lc avoided when
drivers are able to pull back into the right traffic stream
when getting away from the curb instead of being forcod
io back out into the middle of Inith traffic streams, which
is now often the case with parking at a -I'l-degree angle.
Another big objection to the present system will be elimin
ated also because a car getting away from a parallel posi
tion at the curb will be obvious in its movements, and a
driver moving along the traffic stream will not be foreed
to guard constantly against some other car backing out
into traffic without warning.
The City Commission is taking a forward step in lay
ing plans for this new parking system and The Observer
i.nticipates full approval on the part of the motoring pub
lic as the advantages of the new system become more
i'pparcnt.

Of course the then Attorney Gen

tana accusation when he launched
his own Krund jury Investigation of
Kenutor Wheeler here.- 1I knew It
was made at a lime which cast
otne doubt on Its good fulth. Ob
viously It behooved him to move
very carefully, or ho might be sus
pected of lending hlmuelf to an
attempt at persecution. In fact,
there actually were complaints.
They delayed senatorial confirma
tion of tho attorney general's ap
pointment to the supreme bench.
Certain senators also asked, even
obsuming there was a strong caHe
against Wheeler, why Indict him
twice in two different pluces for
tho same thing?
Nevertheless the attorney gener

indictment was returned. Now
about the best turn Attoreny Gen-
nil Sargent can do his predecessor
is to demonstrate In court that the
present Supreme, Justice tit one had
mighty good reasons for believing
Senator Wheeler had done some
thing to be indicted for. It won't
look well for Justice Stone to have
it appear that Wheeler whs Indict-,
