Change In Ownership,
With this issue of the La Grande Evening Observer
complete control of this newspaper, its business and policy,
pusses from Bruce Dennis, who has been with the publica
tion for many years, to Frank B, Appleby, late of Iowa,
who located in La Grande and became associated with the
.Evening; Observer about: four months ago.
Mr. Dennis," the former editor, will continue to make
his home in .La Grande, and while retaining a minor in
terest in the paper he will not be associated with its pub
lication actively other than to occasionally contribute arti
cles for the columns of the paper. He will give his time
to the sheep business and to the management -of his live
stock ranch. It is a change he has contemplated for some
time and was brought about when Mr. Appleby, after
becoming acquainted with La Grande and its people, ex
pressed a desire to become a permanent citizen here. The
lies of friendship and association formed by Mi Dennis
during his many active years' work with La Grande people
! will not be severed, for ho will continue his residence here.
Mr. Appleby is a young, energetic newspaperman from
the state of Iowa whera ho ban-spent--his .lifoi as a pub
lisher, achieving most excellent results. He is a graduate
!of Grinnell, a veteran of the World war, having served as
iin "officer iii the infantry in France. His wife is a graduate
'of ' Smith college, Northampton, Mass., where she was
'un assistant on the ni t department faculty prior to the war.
. While now occupying an enviable position among the
jnowspnpei's of the northwest, the Evening Observer will
jcontinue to improve under the ownership and active man
agement of Mr. TVppleby, who is thoroughly modern in his
jthought, able in business, and eminently fair and just in
liis judgment as to proper policy for the paper to continue
:to pursue.
