Dismissal of Cleaver Lively
State House, Salem (By Mail). The Cleaver investi
gation is near an end. Our guess is that nothing of an
irregular nature sufficiently serious to indict Mr. Cleaver
will be found. Many of his employes have been far from
the proper persons for the job and some of their acts
have been most reprehensible. The committee investigat
ing will probably find finally that Cleaver is temperament
ally unfit for the position, that his many acts so publicly
heralded in print have unfitted him for further service
to the state, and a recommendation will in all probability
be made for his dismissal." i
Thus will end a long drawn-out investigation which has
been of doubtful value, but which has caused an alignment
in the state of people for Cleaver and the governor,!
which is proving to be a cleavage of no small size, accord-1
ing to the propaganda being received. I
Well, let that go as it looks. Mistakes are made on all'
sides by all men.
Here is a solution to the nrohibition problem in Ore
gon.' We believe "tfiVliWit'Wr neiid of that department 'to
