Salem. (By Mail). We sat in the joint session of the
house and senate .this afternoon and before us stood Walter
M. Pierce, Wheat farmer of Union county, who as governor
of Oregon has served one-half of his four-year term. The
old fellow is aging a little. He has had a few bumps,
some of which were hard to ride over, but he has lost none
of his oratory. For more than an hour by a well regulated
