Interested persons had to hunt;
their morning papers through with
a mocroscopo , to find the Item
ubout the aged man who dropped j
dead of heart failure while waiting
in line to shako the president and
Mrs. Coolldge by the hand and wish
them a "Happy New Year."
There were columns and column?
of typo describing the costume ol
Mrs. Coolldge "of two-faced crepe

There were other columns de

epaulettes of our won navy officers.
. Hut tho real hoart-lntorest story
of tho oocasion was tucked away
on an inside page, as though prlnt

would jar the sensibilities of the of

its chanco to shake tho presidential
hand.
But while, officialdom was being
received. Samuel J). Doss, who had
served Uncle Sam for many years
in the mail division of the Postof

the cold and snow with other mem

as ho waited. He was dead before
an ambulance frora a nearby hos
