The Evening Observer has often remarked that the big
job confronting President Coolidge's administration is to
bring down the prices on commodities to fit the prices on
.farm products. '
. . -Then came the agitation for the JIcNary-Haugen wheat
bill and all of us in the wheat growing sections set out to
help get the measure through congress. Not that it was
sound business, but it seemed that there are so many un
sound governmental affairs that assist other lines of business,-
we were anxious that the producer should share in
the. .governmental game. That bill is dead and will hoc
be passed. ,
.What is the next move?
There were but two roads, namely, cither bring the
price-'of fami products up to a level with other commodities
or 'bring the other commodities down to a level with the
prices of farnl products. "
It looks like the other road must be taken. It is the
bji? road, the lasting road, and the sooner work begins

The Fight Is A Long One
All reclamation projects were beaten before congress
adjourned. The slaughter occurred with such men as
Iorah and Sinnolt pleading for consideration but they re
ceived it not. They know the west must have some of
these projects in order to save sections of the country, but
congress, is composed of a great majority of members who
never faw an irrigated field of alfalfa, who never witnessed
the desert blossom as a rose because of irrigation. Nat
urally these members were against any further government
expense on imgation.
And it set the whole scheme of the west back for some
time to come. Constant work will be necessary to ever
get reclamation up to the point it was during the last ses
sion, and it means n long road for congressmen and Sena
tot's from the western states to travel.
