It is refreshing to hear a man of Dr. Currey's type
speak as he docs, for tho doctor is one of the most eX'
tensively traveled men in the northwest.
An Old-Fashioned Boy
We woii't mention his name, but ho travels over Ore
gon in the interest of a very large business concern. Ho
makes La Grande once a year and we liavc known him
iot a long time. Past middle age, this "old-fashioned boy"
Jills his niche in the great scheme of life in a most com
Imendable manner, for his religion, his very life outside
f his work, is his task of caring for an aged mother and
an aged aunt.
This man earns no big money, but he does earn a good.
salary as salaries go. lie lives modestly on the road and
;he-.maintains a home with all the comforts of life some
.place on the coast for the two aged ladies who have spent
.thoir active lives in earlier days in doing the things that
jpjine up for good women to do.
But, the fine part of this little human interest story
ijs that tho traveling man who is the outstanding charac
ter of this narrative delights, in making those two aged
iiadies happy. To him the greatest of all joys is to know
J.hat "mother" and "aunt" are pleased, lie foregoes the
jexpensive social events, he foregoes high priced clothes,
Jie foregoes,, a lot of things that other men of his ago
jpnjoy.'in the full knowledge that in so doing he is better
enabling himself to provide for those who depend upon him.

j world with all its dissension, with all its mockery, with

ijkindness that has not dried up; there is now and then a

of whom we speak retains that flower of love for mother
