A Noble Woman
.' When death churned Mrs. Grace Iianie Friday one of
the sweetest characters in Oregon passed on. To her life
wtm what it choultl be to all of us a life of service to
.ff'thake others happy and contented. We knew her as mat-Vi'-ron
of the Hot Lake sanatorium, as proprietor of the
; p'.Jrloore hotel at Ontario, as caterer at the La Grande
I Country club and throughout the many years of her active
jS$'?;Mfe in caring for the public she maintained that sweetness
I fed'.'bl character which is only known to pure womanhood.
: Her Christian life reflected her beautiful thought; her
' '""i.high type of feminine modesty made everyone better by
Jier association. Always refusing the spotlight positions
in. this world she found her joy and pleasure in doing
.things for, others in smoothing down the. rough places
jn lives of those with whom she came in contact.
,, Her work in this world has been well done. Her sterl
ing character has left its impress on many. La Grande
v ts a community sorrows today over her demise. This city
" held deep devotion for her, and to her relatives the most
prqfound community sympathy is extended.
' Union County Stands Up

' The wheat glowers of Union county did the right thing
Saturday at their meeting in La Grande when they placed
the county squarely behind the McNary-lIaugen bill which
-js to provide for assistance to the wheat grower.
,,. ' It is gratifying to know' that without opposition thit
matter, after discussion, was approved and the sense of
the meeting wired to the Oregon delegation in congress.
Those who have felt the plan might not be sound were
convinced before the meeting adjourned that the plan is
Bound. - Surely it is as sound as a hundred other things
undertaken by the government, and in this instance the
government is not asked to finance the undertaking. The
