Under the vast dome of the
capitol, with low spoken prayer
and tender words of old hymns",
Warren G. Harding was given
into God's keeping at noon today
by men in high places of the
nation who had served with him
in the short years of his leader
ship for the glory, of the flag
that was his winding sheet.
The simple religious cere
mony took barely twenty min
utes After invocation the quar
tet sang "Lead Kindly Light."
Then followed reading of the
Twenty-third Psalm, a selection
from Revelations and a verse
from Micah to which President
Harding had pressed his lips at
his inauguration. Simple pray
ers followed and the singing of
"Nearer My God to Thee" by the
quartette and reciting of the
benediction concluded the gov
ernment's last rites.

ing today.
From the flower banked biei
in the cast room of the White
House whole the body was plac
ed last night, it was taken this
morning and carried with mili
tary pomp to the capitol build
ing rotunda where services wen
held.
Mrs. Harding bore up well
throughout the journey of grief
across the continent. She held
a half hour vigil beside the cas
ket after 1 o'clock this morning,
then retired to her room unti
she rode to the capitol in th(
funeral cortege.
After the benediction in the
funeral services precisely a',
noon she left the rotunda of the
capitol on the arm of Secretary
Christian and with Dr. Sawyer
walking beside her, went to the
street level of the capitol in the
private elevator of the Supreme
emu i. .
Thousands upon thousands of I
people had lined up four abreas'
outside for a march through th 1
rotunda to gaze for the las time
on the dead president's face,

crease of 28,000,000 bushels in this
year's wheat crop was indicated in
the department of agriculture's
monthly crop report Tuesday, as
compared with forecusts mudc a
month uro. The preliminary esti
mate of winter wheat was placed at
5ti8.000,000 bushels, or 18,000,000
bushels less than a month ago, and
the forecast of spring wheat . was
placed at 225,000,000 bushels, or 10,
000,000 bushels less than last month.
