of timber on the Cascade Nattonal
Forest in OrcRon has just been com
pleted, according to an announcement
made by the orest Service, L'nited
States cpartment of Agriculture.
This is one of the largest bodies of
timber of ;the Douglas llr type ever
sold by the-depurlmetn ; compares in
Bb:e with the recent sale of 8!O,00O,

timber the department reports that
its total sales lor tho fiscal year end
ing June HO will probably bo greater
than in any like period. The total
estimated quantity of timber sold will
be between H.iioo million board feet
and 8. mho million board feet, with an
estimated cut of between 1)00 million
and I.ium) million board feet, tho lat
ter figure representing an increase of
nearly million board feet over the
cut for tho preceding fiscal year.

George IT. Kelley, of Portland, was
the successful bidder for the Cascade
Forest timber at an average prico of
Sl'.'L'S per thousand feet for tho Doug
las fir. The total value of the tim
ber Is placed at l,5"",(Mio. It will
be evil at the rale of 50 million board
feet ner year, thus increasing the re
ceipts of the Government by about
$loo,ooo per annum. Prices may be
changed by the department in 1928
and at three-year 'periods thereafter.
