the assembly is expected to be de

tue of the two 47 to 43 votes favor

ly before the approval and engross
ment vote, the assembly refused to
kill the repealer by an identical bal
lot. A resolution congratulating Gover
nor Smith "for his leadership in lead
ing a movement to return to the con-
istituticn of our fathers," was intro
duced by Assemblyman Lindahl, wet
floor leader. It failed to iret the
two-thirds majority needed to bring
about immediate consideration, the
ballot count being 47 to 39 against
and it was referred to the cimmit-
tee. It will come up for consider
ation next week.

a contract to Bauers & Bauers for
the grading and surfacing of the
Cummins creek-Coles bridge section
of the John Day highway in Grant
county, yesterday at Salem. The bid
price is $157,000 and the length fouiv
teen miles- Grant countv is co-op
erating to the extent cf $40,000 from
county bond funds.
