SIII-RRY'S TODAY ONLY
"Tho Dunirer Point" is a picture
thnt ..., .1.1 l..i. ofl.... r..H ikn ...,.l
soll ih,lt it js " enjoyable one an
v,.n,,ii,,l ,ie,.nm It hu tlu mre
quality or seeming lu De real nie,
and ils characters, people of flesh
and blood, rather than a film fable
played by human puppets. When it
is all over you realize that your at
tention has been held every instant
and that Carmel Myers, Win. P. Car
Ictun, Vernon Steel, Jos. J. Dowlinu
(who plays what is absolutely his
nest role since "The Miracle Man' ),
Harry Todd and Marcaret Joslin
have taken you out of your world
into a new one.
The story, like many of tho best
ones, is simple. It is about James
llenton, a quiet, rather silent big
man, who lives in a house overlook
ing the town he has founded and his
gradual awakening to the uppeal of
a frirl from the city. They marry
because they really love and the rest
of the story tells of their attempts id
adapt themselves to each other, their
mistakes, their exaggcrnion of trifles
and their great misunderstanding. A
magnificently staged railroad wreck
is the climax and a happy ending is
the logical result of it.
This is the barest outline of the
plot. There is much more to it.
l-'or example, the unusual character
plavod bv Mr. Dowllne. that of a
blind musician who wanders into the
luwii, uuu Mie uuvver ut m.- ihiiii
and prayer in restoring peace to
Benton and his impulsive wife. Also
-the incident of the old-fashioned PiC'
,ifie, such as useil to flourish in small
towns, is ono that will appeal to any
one whose youth was passed outside
it big city. i
Down to the smallest detail the
(licture is a credit to Lloyd Ingra
mm, the director, and Victor Hugo
llalperin, who wrote it, anil Ross
Fisher, whose judicious camera work
enhances the beauty of lovely exter
iors. One of these is the house over
looking the town such a house as
only the West could produce and one
of the most romantic ever pictured
on the screen.
Comedy showinl:, "No Luck."
SHERRY'S
THELMA" SUNDAY, MONDAY
The bleak hills of Norway and the
great halls of ancestral estates in
old England form n striking bark
ground for "Thelma," Marie Corelli's
classis romance of the Norseland
come to life on the screen. i
Jane Novak, as Thelma, the "pale : full or pep and activity and their
little rose with a crimson heart," voices blend In perfect harmony at all
achieves an artistic triumph in a times. They range from classical
role which seemingly was fashioned I numbers to jazz with touches of re-
for her alone. Miss Novak, without
exaggeration, is the perfect embodi
ment of Marie Corelli's fictional he
roine. She outdoes by far any other
characterization of her career on the
screen.
Imagine for example, Miss Novak
in some of the most stunning gowns
ever created for use on the stage or
screen! Imagine this simple little Jen
ny. IWiren of the great, open North
wst suddenly converted into u blaz
ing bird of paradise and dominating
London society by the sheer power
of her benuty and charm!
This character reveals to us a new
Jane Novak, a Jane Novak not alone
of delicate beauty but an artiste of
marvelous facility and whose delinea
tion of a famous character of fiction
establishes her as one of the really
worth while stars of the screen.
The story, briefly, concerns the
experiences of a beautiful Norse girl
who becomes the bride of a British
nobleman. Ixmdon society scoffed at
i.r out uio gin triumpns uy yie . , , of - matdie3 in
grace of her own dignity and charm. ' " ,7 . 'i!
It is big with dramatic power- It is,f"s0 of lc'lk'
first but tho girl triumphs by t,he
big in romance. It is spectacular in
its huge sets and .lavish costumings.
It is by all odds the.rcalest pro
duction in which Miss Novak has
nvni- nnnurnl
Comedy showing, "Down on the o
Farm." 10

Dustin Farnum, one of the most
popular of stars, ranks foremost for
his portrayal of western roles. His
splendid physique, his Infectious
smile and virile robustness have en
deared him to the public. And he
does not disappoint in "Three Who
Paid."
There are dealings of the cards
in this picture, and fate decrees that
three must pay for an underhand
-Iced. -Dustin, grim sponsor of Jus
tice, dominates the rapid story de
velopment. Softening the whole is
the whimsical piescnce of Utile Bes
