new rnayor and coupcil at a special
meeting last night, passed resolu
tions to stop public drunkenness and
disorderly conduct 'jn the city. It
will cost $25 and up to $300 for an
over-indulgense and ten to 100 days
in jail. The coumcihwent on record
as approving amendments to the
present charter to provide funds for
an adequate sewer system, new side
walks, purchase a rock quarry, buy
and install a rock crusher and com
mence the construction: of permanent
streets in this city.

Sierras, James Olives Curwood is to
the Canadian Rockies. If he was not
their discoverer, he is at 'least, their
romancer. While nrting as special

eihnient, Mr. Curwood was charmed
by this unspoiled section of Nature's
wonderland, which he has made the
scene of so mnnv of . his stories-
"Tho Valley of Silent Men." Thati

Hut with all his sKill as a word
painter Mr.. Curwood could only in

beauty which seem so remote, that
