Tho Pacific Cooperative Wool
(rowers, which Is now the largest
wool marketing orgniUialion west
of Chicago, has during April, re
ceived contracts from' new member
covering over 100. 000 '.pounds of
wcol. The -organization . handled
about 2,000,000 ipounds from Its old
membership lust year. Tlnwe for
the most part are voluntary mem
bers who were In the 1921 pool,
of conversing with satisfied mem
bers who woro In tho U 2 1 pool.
The now members ure from Kastern
Oregon, Washington and Idaho. The
association's membership is now
closo to 2000 and tho results of its
1921 wool sales averaged slightly
higher than the average price re
ceived outside the association by
non-members. Its handling costs
were slightly less-than usual ware
house rates, and the association was
one of 'the three associations having
the lovtcst per pound hauling cosi
of any of the cooperative woll mar
keting associations in tlhe United
States.
Recently, tho Canadia Cooperative
Wool Growers, a fivo-year-old or
ganization of some 12,000 wool
growers, has requested assistance
rrom the local association, in con
sidering adopting the contract feat
ure used by the Pacific Cooperative
Wool Growers. The Wyoming and
I'Hh associations have also corres
ponded with Manager U. A. Ward
of the local association, relative to
adopting the local association's con
irnct and pooling methods. ,
The local association was the first
in the I'lilted Stales to adopt the
orderly marketing system i n the oa
sis of average prices for traded
pools of similar grades, quality, and
shrinkages. Tills plan has now been
adopted by the Ohio association,
and will bo put Into orfect this year.
The Ohio association is one cf the
oldest in the United Slates.
