ple traveling so gnat a distance as1

Oregon Trail.
A part of (he Trail was traversed
by lwis and Clark in 1 Sf IS. Then
came the Hunt expedition in iKlll-12.
Ten years Inter a party of trappers
found and crossed the South I'asss
Then in ISM Nathaniel J. Wyoth built
Port Hall near the proscu site of
Pocatelln. Ida., near the junci'iii i.f
the Tort Neuff and Snake rivers. I'or
ten years Fort Hall was the extreme
outpost and no wagon had ever ven
tured beyond that point. Finally in
Ifrlli n thousand men, women a:ul chil
dren blared the trail clear through to
the Willamette Valley nnd demonstrat
ed that wagons could make the jour
ney. In 18-lo-47. the Mormons ninde thor
celebrated pilgrimage to the (!re;it
Salt Lake. In KI!I came the great

greatest of nil, the migration that has
gone down in hitry as the great
est movement of people to a common

be able to leave for Washington until
some time in March. ;
