JOSEPH, Jan. 111. A. R. Bodmer
left Joseph the latter part of last
week. He has as yet no definite plans
for the future but expresses himself
as being tired of loafing already. The
night before he left the Joseph orehes.
tra gave a dance in his honor at
Roup's hall. All "Hod's" friends were
there and a most happy evening was
spent. The good wishes of the entire
community uttend Bodmer- wherever
he goes.
Friday night the joyful news that
the lake was frozen over was noised
about and a party went up that night
Saturday skating was good with all
but tlvc timid on the ice and Sunday
thc'iiisual crowd was present. Monday
night a light snow fell, spoiling the ice
for the present. There was a good
deal of open water, which will doubt
less freeze und give us another skut-
ing season. There has been good skat-
j nig on Knight s pond for some time
! but the nresence of thick ice on Wul
' Iowa Lake is a signal for every pair j
of skates, no flatter how old and rus
ty, to be dug up for use, und the whole
town and surrounding country made
the pilgrimage to the lake to skate,
j Newcomers look on in wonder but
! are soon bitten by the skating bug
' and ns enthusiastic as any Pioneer.
This year there were an unusual
number of accidents, Saturday May
Soloday broke through the ice near
the west side of the lake. Although
' the water was several feet deep she
escaped with nothing worse than a
1 wetting. She kept rer head and go',
hold of the ice and clung until prompt
action of nearby skaters rescued her
and she was rushed home in. a car in
"short order. Monday afternoon Mrs.
Ah-x .Gillespie had tho misfortune le
,break her left arm, a simple fracture
,of one bone below the eibow. Monday
night Bill N.eedham also fell on .tho
ice while skntfng and fractured his
right leg. This wus also a simple
fracture of 'one bone below the knee.
Both patients "are as comfortable as
possible. Accidents of this kind hnve'
been "almost unknown, in the past,
although bumps and bruises and even
an occasional sprain have been the

members of the junior and senior
classes of the Joseph high school at
the high school auditorium last Fri
day night. It was an excellent play
very well given and a delight to the
audience from start to finish. U is
rather difficult to praise any one per

Amey as Doogan, the thief, was per
haps (the mpsl important part and
was wfcH -sustained. Ted Mays made
an excellent' abscntniinded elderly
gentleman nnd kept the audience
i laughing by his frantic searches for
mislaid at tides. Esther Eben, the
, mother of three lovely daughters, one
of whom was about to celebrate he"
wedding, was fine. The whole play
moved ulong smoothly from start t(i
finish, showing hard work and faith
ful rehearsing by the players.
