Bird: Migration.
In a continuation of the nation
wide investigation on bird migration,
the information of the survey cov.
ering habits, distributon, and mgra
tton of birds has increased and become
very valuable.
Further study has been made of
ptch injurious rodents as ground squir
rels, pocket gophers, rubbits, kan
garoo rats and pocket mico in order
that more effective meiui. aguinsl
their depredations might be found and
made available for use by America-,
farmers.
i Under the protecting care of the
bureau big gamo on government reser
vations has multiplied fast. The ani
mal census shows 1,08 buffalo on sucl
reservations now, as compared with
203 five years ago; 04 elg, us com.
pared with 150; 02 antelope, ns con'
paied with 40, and so on.
Care of the birds progressed ma
terially during the year through post
ing and defining boundaries of many
of the bird refuges, the planting of
grain to provide food and cover, es
tablishment of new reservations, pro
vision of additional warden service at
certain reservations, and increased
number of patrol boats.
Its administration or Hie Migratory
Bird Treaty Act, which prohibits th'r
shooting of migratory birds on their
flight north in the spring and con
tains restrictions ns to the manner in
which they may be hunted during the
open seasons, anil of the I.acey Act,
iwhich regulates interstate shipments
i'f wild animals and game, resulted
in uie nppreliensinn of nearly 1,000
alleged violators of the federal game
laws umf the securing of more thin
500 convictions, in which fines were
assessed ranging from $1 to, $500
each.
Numerous seizures of migratory
game liiuls illegally killed or pos
sessed, the birds being disposed of by
the bureau with the consent of ihn
iiised by gift to hospitals or charitable
institutions for use ns food, and seiz
ures of contraband plumes and mount,
cd specimens of migratory birds of an
estimated value of $5,000.
A notable increase among the mi
gratory birds is attributable almost
solely. to the limitation of spring
shooting, the nonsalo of migratory
game birds, and the establishment of
a uniform Iwg limit, the three funda
mental restrictions made possible by
the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, u--eortling
to the report.
I'eimits were issued for the impor.
tetion from foreign counties of 1S2 -052
birds and 5..10S animals, the lat
ter including 1,574 black or silver fox
es from Canada.

The circuit court ordered the "nuisanc

on tho county. Now the action has
