Thomas Murray Spencer, "poet
laureate" of Montana, has made his
last trip to The Dalles. Spencer, who
is a Doet "on the side" only, uses cigar
salesmanship as a means of earning a
livelihood. He has been coming to
The Dalles regularly for years and
has made many friends here. But old
age is creeping on, and Spencer has
decided to retire. Yesterday he vis
ited with all of his friends, bidding
'them goodbye. Techy he left for
Portland, where he will- make his

the Pyramid Land Co. offices in Ore
gon, Idiho and Washington, pissed
through La Grande yesterday on his
his way to Enterprise. Mr. Pratt is
at present interested in the Montana
oil fields, and reports that the last
seventeen wells drilled all struck oil.

Preparing For Tourists
The fence at the fiiirpTaunds has
been rebuilt on the south side and
the fence west of the main entrance
will shortly be cut down lrtm 10 to
7 feet and will be moved closer to the
race track. Q avenue will be vacated
to Maple street and outside of the
fence to the railroad tracks, all of the
ground will be used for a tourist
camp. The survey for this work will
be made within a few davs.
