WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 The first
federal conviction for profiteering to
be secured is reported today from
Binghampton, New York, where a re
tail grocer was fined five hundred dol
lars for selling sugar at fifteen cents
a pound, three cents above the maxi
mum price allowed by the federal
price-fixing committee.
In a raid on wholesale food ware
houses and cold storage plants at
Jacksonville, Florida, conducted by
federar officials, over a million eggs,
a hundred thousand tins of canned
food and large quantities of sugar
were seized.
