to the L'nited Stales from overseas
was conveyed in a telegram received
from him by his nintlier, Mrs. C. K.
Golden, yesterday. He landed at New

Golden served, with the 107(h Infan
try overseas.

Col. E. L. Eckley went to Hot
Lake this morning to take a course
uf baths in the heated spray. He says
positively that as far as taking
baths is concerned he dues not ap
prove going such a' distance but he
has hooked up a severe cold and has
hopes that' tho Hot Lako treatment
will lessen up tho cold and make him
return to his usual supple and agile
manner.
While attending the Red Cross
convention at Seattle Mrs. W. H.
Talbott visited for a short time her
friend. Miss Ida Kettig who was sta
tioned nt Camp Lewis as a surgit-a'
nurse. Miss Rettlg finished net
work Inst week and was discharged
from the service. She Is now with
hor relatives In Portland taking a
rest and has not ar,nnunced her
plans for the future She Is a gradr
uate of the Grande Hondo hospital
and haB made good In every way in
the service. The highest praise Is
accorded her by surgeons with whom
she worked at Camp Lewis.
GIRL SHOW COMING TO ARCADE
An 'announcement that ho doubt
will be welcomed by all the theatre
goers of La Grande was given out to
day by Messrs. Meyers and Ford of
the Arcade theatre that they have se
cured the Sunset Amusement company
for two days, next Monday and Tues
dey. The Sunset Amusement company
offer as their headline attraction Duke
Westcott, the famous black-face com
edian, and for a vehicle have made
him the center of attraction in those
sparkling musical satires, "The Strol
lers" and "A Night Out." Iicsidos
Mr. Westcott there is Miss Arline Mc
Donnell and the Golden Gate Girls,
as well as others in the cast.
This attraction will appear at tho
Arcade on Monday and .Tuesday
nights, giving two shows each night.
