the strenuous rush of taxpayers to
the office during the two or three
previous weeks, the other offices con
tinue to have all the work they can
hnndle, with the result that the news
chatter knows before entering their
presence that the greeting is going to
be "too busy to know any news to
day."
The sheriff's force were willing,
however, to state .that they have had
splendid collections of tax money this
KpHng. Up until Saturday, which waa
the last date for payment without a
penalty, the amount .received was in
the neighborhood of $10,000. As the
(ininual tax roll is approximately
$440,000, with payments m two semi
'annual installments allowed, this if
j considered a good record.
