day school and church will be held

tine, but has been closed to observe
certain rules the same as other towns.

The Young Men's Christian associ
ation as one of the larger organiza
tions that have been serving our mili
tary forces overseas finds itself con
fronted, following cessation of hostili
ties, with the necessity for a radical
revision of its program. The charac
ter of much of the work required un
der present conditions is quite differ
ent from that called for while men
were entering, leaving or in the
trenches.
Immediately following the armis
tice it was thought that a largely in
creased force would be added, and a
call was made for more men. Later,
when the return of the army from
Great Britain was put into effect im
mediately, and tho early demobiliza
tion of the American forces in France
was begun, it was found that entire
clusses of men heretofore needed in
considerable; numbers by thj;.Y. M. C
A would not be required.'
"The Y now bas over fiOOO workers
in France alone. Hereafter the re
quirements will be limited to certain
specialists and experienced leaders.
This change of program will assist
very materially in conserving the gifts
of the nation. Educational work will
be largely increased for the armies of
occupation, and to an even greater ex
tent than before an all-around Red
Triangle. program will be maintained.
This will limit recruiting to special
ists. "Many men, some of whom already
had reached New York on their way
overseas, have had to be returned to
their homes because the particular
form of work for which they wovp
chosen will not now be needed. They
will add to the number of men in every
community disappointed because they
did not get overseas but are entitled
to equal honor with those whose un
selfish and patriotic desire has not
been thwarted. All will receive cer
tificates of honorable discharge in rec
ognition -of their patriotism."

Thomas ' Hoy, a well-known and
widely 'respected resident of La
IGrantle, died suddenly this morning at
his home here. While Mr. Hoy had
jnot been feeling-in the best of health
jsince about Christmas time, he diij
jnot seem to be really ill at any time

He was a member of the Ixiyal Order
