, Rive; in fact, a full will consciousness I
is rapidly gripping tho populaca. i
, There seems to be plenty of all these i
ingredients, committees find, but they j
are concerned over tha source of j
funds. From what financial circles j
and business men can lenrn the next
liberty loan will drag, if it does,
through hick of availablo money,
rather than from any other cause.
High cost of living, frequent calls I
for philanthropic work and scores of j
other items, have drained tho public
of ready money with which to buy J
bonds, for the public hasn't yotj
grasped the importance of thrift, i
This thought is the reflection of what !
those who are managing the pro-cam- j
paign propaganda have come to feel.
In . thrift alone lies the solution,
they feel. Union county's share Is
large so is every county's share. I
This fact is always remembered, but,!
likewise, the answer stands out pre-!
eminently, to. The answer is thrift.'

Have a Beginning Ready
And, another big plea the workers!
make is to harness oneself to the j
thrift practice light now that there
may be a nucleus to pay down on the ,
bond when it is bought. The rank
and file of the population will have .
to put this third bond issue over on '
that score all seem to agree and if
that element does it. it follows as the j
night the day that tho rank and file ;
niuat exercise a most rigid thriftiness j
in order to accumulate the necessary :
money. - '

, Basketball Girls Defeat the High
j School Freshmen Quint
The Y. M. C. A. girls' basketball
team defeated the High .School fresh
man team last evening by the score of
37 to "0. The game was interesting,
nnd while the Y. M. C. A. team proved
its superior playing in all departments
of the game, ihe high schooL showed
up well, considering ths short time
they have been practicing. Cha ! -Ash,
who managed the "Y" team U-?'
evening, saw that the game was won
in the benning of the sevond half and
substituted three of the younger n:e.u
hers of the Y. M. C. A. team. At thi
end of the first half the high s.ho;,l
had only scored two points oil the
"Y." This low score was due to the
excellent playing of Allendcn Screg
gin, who played guard for the "Y"
and was clearly the star of the game.
Her defense was almost perfect arvl
, her passing ability was very good.
iThe entire "Y" team was some im-
chi.ie. as was expressed by mnr.y of
'. the spectators. ,
